About Us
Dream, Believe, Achieve
Ōhope Beach School is a vibrant, family-focused primary school where learning, nature, and community come together. We’re proud of our caring, inclusive culture and the strong sense of connection that runs through everything we do. Our students are encouraged to explore, create, and achieve their best in an environment where they feel valued and supported.
Our new learning spaces, opened in 2018, sit alongside our original buildings, hall, and large outdoor areas. With a swimming pool, playgrounds, cycle track, and the beach right across the road, our setting offers endless opportunities to learn in and with nature.
Behind the scenes, our dedicated team of teachers, support staff, and Board of Trustees work together to provide quality education for every learner. We hold high expectations, foster curiosity, and celebrate each child’s unique strengths.
We value strong partnerships with families and whānau, built on open communication and shared goals. Together, we help our tamariki grow into confident, capable learners who show PRIDE — perseverance, respect, integrity, diversity, and excellence — in all that they do.

The New Zealand Curriculum gives schools direction for learning through vision and guiding principles. Key learning areas are: English, The Arts, Health and Physical Education, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences including NZ Histories and Technology which incorporates Digital Technology. Key competencies and values are integrated through class programmes.
Children can learn in a variety of approaches and styles and teachers endeavor to deliver motivating and stimulating programmes that assist students to develop and enjoy their learning.
The Ministry of Education’s Parent Portal provides a Guide for the New Zealand Curriculum – Years 0 to 8, which explains what your child is learning each year and how you can support them. You can access the guide below.
Sports and Culture
Sports
At our school, sport is about more than just winning – it’s about showing up, trying something new, and discovering what you’re capable of. Every student is encouraged to get involved, step out of their comfort zone, and experience the joy, growth, and connection that come from simply giving it a go.
Students have the opportunity to participate in sports such as football, basketball, touch, rippa, cross country, netball, and more, allowing them to develop their skills while staying active and engaged.
Culture
Cultural activities at our school play a vital role in helping students express themselves, celebrate diversity, and connect with the world around them. From music and drama to visual arts and cultural events, we provide opportunities for every student to explore their creativity, share their heritage, and grow in confidence. It’s through these experiences that students develop a deeper appreciation for themselves and others.
Student Leadership
At our school, we believe leadership is something every child can grow into. Through roles such as house groups leaders, librarians, peer mediators, wet day monitors, road patrol, bus monitors, and more, students are given meaningful opportunities to step up, take responsibility, and contribute to their school community. These experiences help develop confidence, empathy, and a strong sense of service – laying the foundation for capable and caring leaders of the future.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)
Ōhope Beach School Community uses the Positive Behaviour for Learning ( PB4L) Framework to develop and support our school culture.
It is based on developing positive and respectful relationships between all members of our Ōhope Beach Community – students, staff and whanau.
We aim to provide a school-wide Positive Behaviour for Learning environment to establish and maintain a safe and effective environment that will maximise the academic and behavioural competence of learners.
